From the meeting in NYC
Since we have been talking a lot about the meeting with Lars and Gary in New York City, and we have explained that we have some words attached to figuring out a new design, you might as well just get the words. Right here:- Artistic
- Feminin
- Martha Stewart
- Rough structure
- Folksiness vs. interesting
- Combine elements
- Artsy
- Family vs. sophisticated
For inspiration we should look at:- www.massmoca.com
- www.tanglewood.com
The new 'product' of our internship will be a corporate design/branding suggetion.
Laerkes 'final' design sketches
Suggestion six:Here we also tried to incorporate some of the things we talked about on our meeting in New York. This is for instance the more textured artistic look of the menu, the interessting cut of the images, and the more 'organic', soft and dynamic design.
Suggestion seven:Here is the winner by now. This was was liked the most by all parts. The thing with the map in the background is really good, because it is a map of Hudson, and that may give the users an idea of where HOH is situated even before they get there. The use of colors is simple but yet very good and powerful. We will try to work on developing this sketch further. Also adding more old vs new design elements. For instance we should try to incorporate the quotes in the banner. Also maybe try to change the colors slightly.
Website construction
The past weeks we have been trying to work out a new structure for the website. A different way to construct the information flow. So now we have come up with a plan, and you should just take a look on it.
Website construction
Diagram 2
So now the survey is done and the final diagrams are ready for upload. Now we will analyze the answers and make sure that our new suggestions for the website still fits. The final diagrams - which depict descriptions of the Hudson Opera House, and what motivates the users to use it - can be seen here:Diagram 2
First models
We now have the first models and analyzes of our survey. It has been very interessting to compile the data and figure out why people are using the Hudson Opera House. We still need to make models over the different descriptions of HOH, but when they are finished they will be uploaded. But untill then take a look at the models so far:http://195.41.173.103/upload/tvskolen/upload/digram oversigt.pdf
Analyzing the surveys
Today we have analized the first 40 answers from the survey. Those were both from the online survey and the ordinary survey. It has turned out that the online survey is much more effective. The results so far have been just what we wished for, and it gives more ideas of what could be improved and added to the website.Till now we have just used Exel to make diagrams of the result, but we hope maybe to find a better one later.
The web survey
Now we have made a web edition of our survey. Today it was sent out as a webflyer to more than 1200 people. The regular survey has not turned out to be that great a succes. Not that many replies yet. Here in the evening we have had more than twenty answers from the web survey, so things are looking good. After some time we will close for more answers and analyze them, in order to make a better and more user oriented website. But still it is a good thing to have both ordinary and web editions because that way we expand our targetgroup more.
A Survey
The last couple of days we have started to get much more busy. This monday we handed in a ten pages log assignment for our school. One was focused on the visual profile of HOH and another was focused on their communicative profile. Then we have translated our assignments into english, so that the staff get a better knowledge of our analysis, and what we are doing. So know we have a good background knowledge to improve their brand.
Also we have been developing a survey for the people who come to visit the center. It contains questions of their perception of Hudson Opera House, and mostly questions concerning their website. The plan is also to put the survey on the current website, but we have some troubles to make editable .pdf. And also it would require that the users have a very updated version of a .pdf reader, which they might not have because of their internet connection. Also the webflyer will be sent out to their mailinglist as a webflyer. We hope to get a lot of answers that way. So we in the end will make a user based website.

Our house and the arts show

Here's a picture of our very nice house in Union. Although it is bright and sunny on this picture, it's not always like that in Hudson. Mostly it's been freezing, but today we had our first gray and rainy day.

This is a picture of Laerke at our first cultural evening in Hudson. It's the opening of the arts show were almost 300 people joined. A very nice evening indeed :)
Second staff meeting
So today we were at our second staff meeting. Today is a rather important day at the Hudson Opera House, there will be an important person visiting so we have to smile the best we know and be polite danes. This week and last week we have been collecting articles for the presskit. The presskit includes different kinds of folders, presscards, contactcards, letters of information and so on. Also it includes a description of how the fundings are going. HOH is applying for a lot of dollars to restore their roof. It's dated back to 1939 so it needs some fixing. Let's cross our fingers and hope they will get the money from this important person. We have also been working on a survey. It's not quite finished yet, but we hope to have it ready for tomorrow. Then there will be a concert with Badma Khanda - a mongolian musician - who will perform first at the highschool and then afterwards here at he Opera House. Tonight we might be going to dinner with the people who knows Badma Khanda. Very exciting. So that should be it for now...we'll just post some pictures as well.
Jingle bells, jingle bells...

Just to let you know...there really was huge amounts of snow...!
Meeting the people
Yesterday we went touring the neighbourhood around Hudson. This picture is taken at the gardens of Bard College, which is a quite famous and wellknown college around here. Rest of the day we went to other small towns around while listening to John Lee hooker, getting to know the true american spirit. Today was the first day at Hudson Opera House and we met Gary - our boss - and the other employees, E. , Betsy and Joe. They were all extremely nice to us and Gary showed us around the building. Everbody seemed happy about meeting us, and we had the chance to be at our first staff meeting. This gave us a good angle of understanding how things work at the Opera House. Today it's been snowing heavily, but we went outside anyway to explore the town. We hope it wil be gone tomorrow because we need further exploration of the town, and also we are looking forward to go back to work :)
We finally made it!
After a long, but eventfull, journey we are finally in the lovely Hudson valley. It seems to be a nice place and the people are very friendly, the views are great and the house we are living in is really nice. Today we went for a trip outside of Hudson, together with Patricia our hostes, to explore the surroundings. It was a splendid tour and we were very excited about it. We went to a small restaurant to eat, vistited some neighbour villages and finished of shopping.
Tomorrow we will head for the Opera house to get a view on things. E.g we will define our project more precisely and understand what kind of place the multi arts center it is.
The website construction
We have now been working on the structure of the website for some time. We have discussed back and forth how to make it. This is our suggestion to the website construction.
You can take a look at it here:

Teamspirit v. 2
At the workshop we also had another exercise regarding teamwork. We cut down a lot of words until we had three. These three words will describe how we will work together on a more personal level.Teamspirit- Support
- Good and bad days
- Engagement
- It's allowed to think aloud
Experiences together- Remember the humor
- Make tours around Hudson and New York
Aha!/Oh! - Creativity
- Innovation
- Being spontanious
Teamspirit

Last week we had our first visit with the rest of the trainees. Also we had to do different tasks concerning teamwork and project development. This exercise was a way of putting down different criteria for our project. The yellow stripes were for the content of the project. They are translated beginning from above 'Ice in your stomach'. By this we mean that we should not panic, but be able to keep focus, also when things aren't going the way we want them to. The second one is 'Engagement'. If we don't feel fully engaged with the project, then there is a big chance that the final result won't pleas us -or you - at all. The last one is 'The Humorfactory'. This is added because we want to have fun in between the work, and also be able to meet new people and colleges.
The red ones are for the projectgoals. Translated they are from above; 'Positive ping pong' which means being able to give constructive critique. And being able to accept the critique without being disasppointed or anoyed. That's also the essence of number two. The last one is 'crossing own limits'. That's both in our traineeship and in our sparetime.
Finally the green notes are for the process. From above they are 'Deadline', which just refers to the fact that we have to be professional and keep our deadlines. Number two is 'satisfied costumers' and number three is 'Getting a rush through your body'.
